Embedded interview prep

Know why it crashed.

Embedded interview prep for engineers who read the datasheet. AI writes the first draft now. Interviews test the rest: find what it got wrong, fix it, and explain the mechanism. Then answer the follow-up.

Good catch on the ISR. Now it runs at 921600 baud and the main loop stalls for 20 ms. How do you make sure no bytes are lost?

Interviews now start where the debugger stops.

Anyone can generate a ring buffer. The interview asks why it drops one byte in ten thousand at 921600 baud.

What you get

Four ways to practise. Each one ends in a why.

Memorised answers survive one question. Interviews go three deep. Every exercise here makes you explain the mechanism.

Bug hunts & Fix-it

Firmware with planted bugs. Flag the lines and say what breaks. Then fix it and build it with clang against a mock Cortex-M target.

  • volatile, ISRs, DMA, RTOS, timing, boot
  • Real compiler errors, pattern checks, an AI reviewer
  • Reference fixes with the mechanism behind each one

Basics on a real compiler

Bits, arrays, strings, memory, lists and checksums. Write it, run it, see which test failed and what it expected. clang runs in your browser.

  • 30 problems with visible and hidden tests
  • C11 or C++17. Python for the validation track
  • Compile errors never count against you

Company prep for India

What each company's embedded teams hire for, how the rounds usually run, and the challenges that match.

  • Round-by-round guides and question bank
  • Separate dev and validation tracks
  • "Asked in my interview" marks from users

AI mock interviewer

After each challenge the interviewer asks the next question, then the one after. Every answer gets PASS, PARTIAL or FAULT, with the reason.

  • Follow-ups that probe what you missed
  • Mock rounds styled on each company
  • A score and two themes to work on next

Daily brush-up

Five questions a day on C, Cortex-M and RTOS. Expect integer promotion. Interviewers do.

Progress you can see

Every submission is logged, with accuracy by track. Sign in and it syncs across devices.

How it works

Find it. Fix it. Defend it.

The three things an interviewer checks. About ten minutes a challenge.

1Find the bugs

Read code an AI assistant wrote. Flag every line you'd stop in a review.

void EXTI3_IRQHandler(void) { xSemaphoreTake(i2c_mutex, portMAX_DELAY); uint16_t raw = i2c_read(SENSOR, TEMP); xQueueSend(sensor_q, &raw, 0);}

2Fix the code

Edit it and build it with clang. Quick checks catch the common misses. The reviewer judges the logic.

- static uint8_t head = 0;+ static volatile uint8_t head = 0;- printf("RX: %c\n", byte);+ rx_count++; /* log from task */

3Defend it

The interviewer asks the follow-up a senior engineer would. Then it grades the answer.

Interviewer: Your fix adds volatile. Is that enough on a dual-core part, or do you need something stronger? Why?

AI interviewer

The first question is easy. Practise the second.

Prepared answers cover the first question. The second and third ask for trade-offs, out loud. That is where the decision gets made.

  • Grades every answer PASS, PARTIAL or FAULT, with the reason
  • Tells you what a strong answer would have covered
  • Mock rounds styled on a company's public job descriptions

FAQ

Questions

Do I need an account?

Not to read. Bug hunts, Fix-it quick checks, company guides and the daily quiz work without one. Running code and the AI interviewer need a free Google sign-in. So does syncing progress.

Which languages can I write?

C everywhere. C++17 in Basics, because product companies use it on larger parts. Python for the validation track, because test rigs run on it. The compiler is clang 21 built for WebAssembly. It runs in your browser, so your code never leaves your machine.

Who is HeapCrash for?

Final-year students and working engineers preparing for embedded software, firmware, and embedded validation roles. Most of the content assumes you know C.

What counts as one AI session?

One follow-up interview after a challenge, one company mock round, the AI reviews of one challenge's fixes in a month, or (Pro) the AI error explanations for one problem in a month. Allowances reset on the 1st of each month.

Are these real interview questions from these companies?

No. Questions are original, written to match the skills in each company's public job descriptions. Users can mark questions they were asked, which helps others see what's common.

How do I cancel Pro?

From your account menu, any time. You won't be charged again, and Pro stays active until the end of the month you've paid for. See the refund policy.
